Preparing for your bed bug treatment

Please do these before we arrive. Good preparation makes treatment far more effective.

1. Strip all beds. Take off sheets, duvet covers and pillowcases. Wash them at 60°C or tumble dry on hot for at least 30 minutes.
2. Bag clothes and fabrics. Wash or hot-dry clothes, curtains and soft toys from affected rooms, then keep them sealed in clean bags until after treatment.
3. Clear the floor and under beds. Remove clutter and anything stored under beds so we can reach every edge, seam and skirting board.
4. Move furniture away from walls. Pull beds, sofas and chests of drawers a little away from the walls.
5. Vacuum thoroughly. Vacuum mattresses, carpets, sofas and edges of rooms, then empty the vacuum straight into an outside bin.
6. Don't move things between rooms. Keep items from affected rooms where they are, so bed bugs don't spread to other parts of your home.
7. Don't use shop-bought sprays. DIY sprays can scatter bed bugs and make treatment less effective.
8. Plan to be out during treatment. People and pets should stay out of treated rooms until the treatment has dried, usually 5 to 6 hours. Cover or remove fish tanks.
